SOLOIST AND MASTER TEACHER

Tom Hooten began his career in “The President’s Own” and is currently the Principal Trumpet in the LA Phil. Throughout his career, he has used his creativity and perseverance to bring a traditional-bound art form to new heights.

On stage at Disney Hall, in solo performances, and in his teaching studio, Hooten consistently pushes the boundaries of modern trumpet playing. Whether he is demonstrating his skill to audiences, or sharing his profound insights with students, Hooten is a leader of the classical music world.

In his cool, Miles Davis-nonchalant manner, Tom Hooten provided one dumbfounding effect after another… In a nice Mahlerian touch, Hooten turned fanfares on their heads. He could be jazzy. He could be silly. He could be shed-a-tear somber in “Apopemptic,” which means leave-taking and is a tribute to Louis Andriessen.
